Here's me, the owner of STIMPSONS GPDB LTD, along with my sister
back in the early '80s - I was always building and creating! -
I was used to having like-minded, enthusiastic people helping me build my creations from a very young age.

​All About STIMPSONS GPDB - (GARDEN,PAVING,DESIGN & BUILD) -
How it all started ! ... 
​the l..o..n..g version.

Tim's interest in building and creating began at a very young age while playing around with old bricks and timber
in his grandfather's backyard. He was allowed to dig holes,
fix brickwork, build walls and pathways, and stack bricks to make dens at just 6 years old. While most of his friends were still playing with LEGO, Tim was building, fixing, and creating, even making mini igloos in the snowy winters of the 80s.

He can still remember his first mini brick den collapsing and burying him in a pile of rubble. His grandfather pulled him out, washed him down, covered him with germolene and plasters, and taught him the importance of a sturdy foundation and the installation
of load-bearing lintels. It was a painful lesson,
but one Tim thankfully learned very early in life.


This interest was fuelled further when he helped his dad landscape his family's back garden, building a pond, pathways, and paving at the age of just 13. The transformation from a shabby, derelict, overgrown garden into stunning, practical family areas and
linking pathways was completely mind-blowing to Tim.

​Right there and then, at that very early age of just 13, Tim knew he wanted to make people feel exactly how he did when he walked down the pathway to spend time by the pond in his new garden many years ago. This is exactly where it all started! - He wanted to learn how to
do this for his job, to build wonderful places for
others to enjoy and spend time with their family,
improve their lives, and the time they spent together.


Stimpsons was eventually formed in May 2000 by Tim Stimpson at the age of 23 after gaining considerable knowledge and extensive practical skills, all backed with a big chunk of natural talent and a ridiculous amount of enthusiasm to succeed.


Tim has been involved in the garden, landscaping, and building industry from a very young age. Both his father and grandfather were groundworkers and civil engineers for a large family business, and his mother was a very talented, award-winning florist before retiring. I guess it was always just meant to be? It's also not often you find your forename hidden within your own surname... STIMPSONS. He spotted it early on and, as time went by, decided to use this as a personal sign of his mark of quality by forming a personal, meaningful logo rather than a showy, flashy company name that could be easily changed if a company changed hands.

Tim wanted a better sign of complete trust, so he literally put his name (or stamp, if you like) against all his work as his sign of trust, quality, and commitment to each and every one
of his customers and projects!

Tim is extremely proud of each and every job the
team build along with him and is still part hands-on!
   

Since leaving school in 1992, he worked initially at the age of 16 for a garden nursery and landscape company based in Cranham, Essex for 6 years. Tim met his very first boss, Jeff Hedges, whose commitment to customer service and management skills were second to none. He learned so much working there, especially about running a small business and providing excellent customer care.

Tim absorbed all he could from the garden nursery. It was like a family to him and being committed he found it very hard to let go. However, he needed to follow his desire to learn more on the hard landscaping side. He found a local small paving and landscaping company owned by Mark Day. The skills, commitment, and sheer hard work Mark provided for his customers were truly inspiring. His care for his family, along with his care for Tim as his only employee at the time, sticks with him to this very day.


He literally made Tim a better person with his awe-inspiring mindset on family, life, work ethic, and running a small trustworthy business!


Tim then reluctantly moved on in his determination for even more knowledge and skills. He got distracted and started working for a very large national landscaping company, providing services to the commercial and domestic sectors, including the local council for two more years before he gained enough skills and knowledge to launch his own business. I guess from working there he learned exactly how not to treat customers, along with how not to provide a quality service! Another big decision that Tim made early on from this job was that his business would only grow big enough to honour his customers with the care and maintenance they deserve, and restrict the amount of builds his team would install per year and look after with be-spoke maintenance packages to suite growth of the business.

Throughout these years, he began with hands-on positions and quickly worked up to managerial roles as his knowledge and potential were spotted. This is when he found he deeply missed the hands-on parts ! and missed not being on-site watching the projects unfold with a team around him.

This ultimately led to Tim starting up Stimpsons, as he could combine all the planning, design, arranging, and doing parts, along with providing a dedicated hands-on personal service - to provide a perfect balance of hands-on service and customer care.
Tim is proud to offer this unique fusion of small, friendly, and local business values together with the customer service and care structure you would expect from a much larger company - for the perfect balance of care from first contact to end result
for all our customers!
Tim, over the years, has had the chance to teach all his knowledge gained to his children, family members, and his dedicated team
of fully employed staff!

Tim's eldest son Jay joined the team in 2020 and is rapidly building his skills along with Tim's second eldest son Taylor - who installs part-time electrical installations and provides part-time labouring. Tim's brother-in-law Chris came on board to help with the rapidly growing family business in early 2017 and provided additional labour and logistical services to complete all projects on time.

if given the room to create and learn in the
right supportive environment.

I love to help people thrive and develop skills -
it brings me great satisfaction to share all my skills to help others become successful. We are essentially one family
that works closely together and helps each other out at all times.

I have developed my own in-house training, allowing all my staff to grow with my company. My highly specific training is geared toward my employees learning the ropes of my paving business to such a high standard that can honour my customers with a
lifetime guarantee if wanted.

I'm very passionate about the landscape industry and I have a natural (gifted) meticulous eye for detail, however large or small this detail may be - this mindset is always passed to all my team.

• Collect and dispose of all waste generated on our projects in an ethical manner, with all plastic/wood/metal waste to be collected and recycled.

 

• Where possible on smaller projects - recycle all soil and concrete waste, however with larger projects this may not be logistically viable, so we instruct larger companies to remove the waste in bulk to be recycled instead.

 

• No landfill!

We avoid sending any waste generated to landfill.
I'm very proud to be able to recycle nearly all of our waste produced from the site.

How much does a design cost ? 

 We have many levels of design costs, from simple in-house FREE hand and CAD sketches for Drives & Patios - along with outsourced Complex Designs by recognised Designers that
we have used over the many years of trading.

 ⫸ All Basic Driveway and Patio, 2D drawings are FREE as standard - Why FREE?
Because we want you to be happy with your NEW Driveway
and/or Patio, and we get to show you exactly
what we can build especially for you.

⫸  Garden and more complex paving
designs starting from £500.00 + VAT... For Drawings
with a little more detail, this would include the FREE basic 2D Concept design with added details including 2-3 isometric drawings on the same page to help
visualise any Landscape features.

⫸ Then fully detailed garden designs that start from
 *£1,500.00 + VAT More of these prices and our process

All initial design work is a mix of in-house Hand and CAD-drawn designs exclusively designed by Tim Stimpson. If a fully detailed drawing is required, we instruct our trusted Go to Designer using our FREE Basic Plan or our PAID drawing as our starting point.
